Where abundant deliciousness begins

The neighbors were so good to shovel and deice our sidewalks and driveway while we were away. Now, though, shoveling. Snow. Ice. Must. Clear. The. Curb. Don’t want the mail carrier to drive by. A week’s worth of mail due to arrive today.

The sun has risen over San Agustinillo beach by now with its marvelous array of reds, oranges and yellows. Simply. Amazing. That glimmering light against the crystal blue sky and shimmering sea.

My muscles are working. Using my core. Strength of my thighs grounding me. My arms moving deliberately, rearranging the snow from the street to the the earth holding up the mailbox. My back whispering to glow. Be intentional. This work, this movement, it’s foreign.

The bright green Adirondak chairs under the palm leaf palapas at Mexico Lindo are calling. By now we would have settled in, taking our vitamins in the form of a big glass of jugo de naranja. Maybe even a pina empanada from the woman who carries a basketful of delicate pastries on her head offering them up for pesos. A tasty morning treat. Arm lifting the glass and mouth savoring the flavors – that’s exercise of the gods.

9:13am and 3 degrees the car dashboard reports. Cold. Bitter cold. Gray skies. Snow on the way. Driving to Brueggers for a toasty bagel and hot hazelnut coffee. Finding the comforts of this different world to which I’ve returned.

“Sport” – the blond German Shepherd mix would have visited with us as we walked past her spot on the beach. She put her heart and soul into whatever she was doing. Her playful spirit an inspiration, an invitation for fun and joy.

Got everything unpacked. Settled back in. Readying for the year ahead. Filled with gratitude for the rest and rejuvenation of vacation – quiet and relaxing time with Jim.

We lit our wish lantern, a gift from our “Mexico friend”, Sean (who we met here 8 years ago and see each year, same time, same place). We made our wishes for the year ahead, sharing our hopes and embracing each other’s together as one before releasing them with the lantern to the universe. Our dreams unfolding before our eyes in the darkness of night – our light among the thousand stars awake in the sky.

  1. Love hearing more about your adventures, Vicki! You guys really find ways to celebrate and relax… love the lantern idea, and the fact that it’s shared goals and future! But then again, knowing you, that’s not so surprising. :=)

    • It was a wonderful vacation. We’ve been practicing this vacation thing for 15 years now (2 weeks every summer to Europe and 1 week every Christmas to someplace warm and exotic) … I think we really are getting the hang of it! Thanks for coming by to sample the enjoyment!
