For Sandy

Today I dedicated my run to you, my cousin Sandy. With every step I took, I was sending you love. Love filled with healing, health, strength, desire, determination. You were in my every thought. When I got home, I wrote this for you. I love you.

The light at the top
By Vicki Flaherty

There’s a mountain in front of you
It may seem impossible to climb.
The impossibility will be held in a moment
Only a moment, a passing moment.
When it comes, take a deep breath
And, rest in love
The love that guides your foot gently forward
Ever so gently pulling you toward the top.
Take just one small step
One small step each day.

Oh, it will not be easy.
In fact, it will be hard.
Maybe the hardest thing you’ve ever done.
At times, you may feel like giving up.
That desire will held in a moment
Only a moment, a passing moment.
When it comes, take a deep breath
And, rest in love
The love that’s inside of you
The love that we all have for you.

Before you know it
With each of those daily small steps
You will find yourself in a new place.
You’ll be able to look back and see how far you’ve come.
The top may still seem so far away when you turn back around.
Only look out to the top when the destination inspires you.
Otherwise, keep your eyes right in front of you.
Focus on the one small step
One small step each day.

You have angels
Right by your side, holding your hand.
If you go slow, you may feel them with you
We, too, are here beside you
Supporting you along your journey.
You are worthy of the mountaintop.
We see you strong, resilient, graceful
And perfect in every way.
We see the beautiful being that you are.
We see your light shining at the mountaintop.
